Dr. Trini Espinosa Abascal

Research Officer & Data Analyst

Trini is a researcher and consultant with expertise in business and finance, and a strong focus on diversity and inclusion.

In 2018 Trini completed her PhD on understanding consumer behaviour in Indigenous tourism. She is knowledgeable in the fields of Indigenous culture and society, education and migration issues. She has published in international peer reviewed journals, book chapters and presented at international conferences (mainly focused on Aboriginal tourism and its impact on business viability and/or reconciliation). She has conducted research to inform processes and policies within Universities and to develop recommendations for Government policy, Universities and not-for-profit organisations.

Trini’s research interests focus on diversity, social inclusion, and education. In her work with Lirata, Trini provides technical support across a wide range of consultancy and capacity building projects, including monitoring, evaluation and evaluation capacity building.

Trini has experience in providing peer-to-peer research support in areas such as mixed-methods, qualitative research methodology, data collection and analysis methods, research proposal writing and ethics applications. She is currently undertaking research at William Angliss Institute to inform their Reconciliation Action Plan and to explore ways to embed Indigenous knowledge into the curriculum.

She is the founder and director of a non-for-profit organisation (Latin Stories Australia) which aims to advance multiculturalism and social cohesion in Australia. She has successfully attracted Government funding and managed several projects to collect and share the voice of the Latin American migrant community and to develop programs to support those in need (currently working on a program for the Latin American migrant women to prevent family violence). She also initiated and managed a fundraising campaign to provide disaster relief aid to those affected by the 2017 earthquakes in Mexico and engaged with a local community-based organisation for distribution of funds to Indigenous communities.

With training and experience in finance, and experience as a lecturer and tutor at several Universities, Trini possesses proven multidisciplinary expertise.

Trini's qualifications include a Bachelor of Business (Finance and Accounting), a Master of Science (Quality Systems and Productivity), and a PhD.
